The Fairfax County section of Falls Church has many large county parks with miles of hiking, biking, running trails, and many other facilities. These parks include Holmes Run Stream Valley Park and Roundtree Park.
Falls Church City has 12 smaller parks with many amenities for sports, picnics, playgrounds, etc.
There are several private Recreation Clubs in Falls Church including Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet, Sleepy Hollow Recreation Association, Woodley Recreation Association, Poplar Heights Recreation, and others. Both the city and County have public recreation centers available to residents.
Rails to Trails and other hiking, biking, and running trails are all over the area and provide off street access and recreation to almost anywhere in the Metro area. Trials like the WO&D go from Shirlington to Purcelville, about 45 miles. The Custis trail goes from the WO&D in Falls Church to D.C. via Key Bridge, and the Four Mile Run trail starts at Reagan National Airport and ends in Falls Church. The Mt. Vernon trail goes from Key Bridge to Mt. Vernon. They are all connected and you can start from many areas of Falls Church. Another system of trails starts at the bottom of the Lake Barcroft Dam on the east side of Columbia Pike, and ends in Old Town, Alexandria.
Aside from being just 20 -25 minutes from Washington D. C. with a million things to do there, there’s plenty to do in the Falls Church area. One popular Saturday morning activity is to go to the large outdoor farmers market right in the middle of town. Another attraction, right in the middle of town, is the State Theatre, which is one of the areas best live music clubs. There is virtually an unlimited choice of shopping and restaurants in the immediate area.
